Senator Pat Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) issued the following statement today after attending the inauguration of Governor Jerry Brown, where his inaugural address also served as his constitutionally required annual report to the Legislature:
“I congratulate Governor Brown as he begins his historic fourth term. Our state will have to make many key decisions this year on issues such as job creation, education, and transportation, and I know we can work together to achieve meaningful progress.
“As the Governor looks towards securing his legacy, I hope he will successfully resist the urge from those who want to raise taxes yet again and spend us back into multi-billion dollar deficits. With some fiscal common sense, we can further pay down debt and prioritize spending for essential services such as schools, law enforcement, and infrastructure – now and in the future.”
Senator Patricia C. Bates represents the 36th Senate District in the California Legislature, which includes the Orange County communities of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, and San Juan Capistrano; and the San Diego County communities of Camp Pendleton, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, and Vista.
