Tuesday, January 6, 2015

Senator Pat Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) announced today her committee assignments for the 2015-16 legislative session:

  • Appropriations (Vice Chair)
  • Business, Professions and Economic Development (Vice Chair)
  • Transportation and Housing
  • Governance and Finance
  • Environmental Quality
  • Joint Legislative Budget
  • Legislative Ethics

“I am pleased to be able to serve on committees that reflect many of the priorities of the taxpayers of Orange and San Diego Counties, including job creation, transportation, and protecting our beautiful natural environment,” said Bates. “I thank Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León and Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff for the opportunity to serve on these committees as I look forward to working with my colleagues to address some of California’s toughest challenges. Working together, we can strike a fair balance between protecting public health and safety while allowing our economy to thrive.”

As Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which has jurisdiction over bills that would cost taxpayer dollars, Bates will be a strong Republican voice for fiscal responsibility. She brings significant experience to this assignment having previously served as Vice Chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

As Vice Chair of the Business, Professions and Economic Development committee and as a member of committees related to job creation, Bates will fight for a friendlier jobs climate that will encourage more entrepreneurship and investment in every community in the state.

Bates brings significant experience to her committee assignments as a former Mayor of Laguna Niguel, an Assembly Member, and an Orange County Supervisor, where she was widely regarded by her colleagues as a proven consensus builder to make communities safer and more livable. Throughout her career, she has worked diligently to protect taxpayers, promote pro-jobs policies, shorten the timeline for the delivery of transportation projects, and protect the environment.
