Legislative Republican Leaders' Statement on Reports of Capitol Sexual Misconduct

Saturday, October 21, 2017

Today, Assembly Republican Leader Brian Dahle (Bieber) and Senate Republican Leader Patricia Bates (Laguna Niguel) released the following joint-statement:

The entire Legislature has been shaken by recent reports of abuse, harassment and sexual assault in and around the Capitol. These stories have revealed an unhealthy culture that requires a swift response. We applaud the women who have bravely come forward to share their stories.

Leaders in both houses of the Legislature fully stand behind the immediate expulsion of any legislator or staff member found guilty of sexual assault.

The Legislature should hold itself as an example for a safe, respectful and professional workplace.

Assembly Republican Leader Brian Dahle serves the 1st district in the California Legislature, which includes all or parts of Butte, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra and Siskiyou counties.

Senate Republican Leader Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) represents the 36th Senate District in the California Legislature, which covers South Orange County, North San Diego County and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
